COURSE DESCRIPTION/SYNOPSIS: AAPL's Structuring A Deal: Negotiation Strategy and Technique is designed for land professionals involved in negotiating deals and contracts in the oil and gas industry and includes negotiations for oil and gas leases, surface agreements, rights-of-way, mineral acquisitions, farm-ins, trades, AMIs, assignments (producing and non-producing), and mergers and acquisitions.

Learn steps to prepare for effective negotiating, how to move through blocks and barriers in communication, overcoming issues that may arise, staying on target, and getting more deals signed. The course includes counter tactics, knowledge, and tools that are easy to use and implement.

Marita Morris is a Certified Professional Landman with over 34 years of experience in the Oil and Gas Industry.  She created the “Structuring a Deal: Strategy and Technique Seminar” for the AAPL and has presented the full-day seminar in several basins.  Ms. Morris also does a presentation on “Dealing with Difficult & Hold-Out Owners”.   She currently is the Permian Basin Manager at 1836 Royalty Partners in Fort Worth.  She holds a Master’s Degree in Communications and Negotiations and a Petroleum Land Management Certification.  Ms. Morris has had her own brokerage, worked in-house, and worked in numerous areas of the industry.  She specializes in negotiating or mediating between mineral and surface owners and oil companies.  Her forte is in negotiating in difficult and challenging situations.  She has negotiated or personally overseen the negotiations for over 30,000 contracts and agreements.

Ms. Morris was awarded the AAPL Best Member Communication award in 2014 for her speech and article on “What the Frac are we going to do about it?”, a presentation on ways we in the industry can help educate the public on our environmentally conscious standards and practices.  She has worked in several states and abroad and was a frequent guest on the radio show, “Powering America”.

 

Marita started working in the business at a young age at her mother’s oil and gas brokerage working in Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming. In the late 90’s, Marita started her own brokerage in Oklahoma.  In 2006, Marita created a Landman Training Program and has trained hundreds of Landmen.  Marita lives in Fort Worth, Texas.  She has 3 grown children, Andrew, Michelle, and Christa; and 2 grandsons, Ethan and Zylus.  Marita enjoys travelling. Her favorite pastime is cooking and baking.  

 

Ms. Morris speaks at local Landman Associations and corporations and is available for speaking engagements and trainings.
